Men's Ministry
Purpose
Our immediate purpose will be to remind one another to live according to these exhortations found in 1 Corinthians 16: 13-14:
- "be on the alert"
- "stand firm in the faith"
- "act like men"
- "be strong"
- "let all that you do be done in love"
By basing our lives on the following biblical principles:
- The fear of God (Deuteronomy 4:10, 1 Kings 8:43, 1 Peter 2:17, Proverbs 1:7)
- The sovereignty of God (2 Samuel 16:5-14, 1 Kings 2:8-9)
- The sovereignty of God over man's heart (Deuteronomy 2:30-31, Deuteronomy 31:21, Leviticus 26:36, Haggai 1:14, Ephesians 2:4-5)
- The timing of God (Joshua 14:10-12, 1 Kings 9:2, 3:5)
- The imminent coming of the Lord Jesus Christ (1 Thessalonians 5)
Our ultimate purpose is to encourage each other to allow God to lead us through His Word and to see one another whole-heartedly believe that God can lead us through His Word. The following is a quote taken from The Christian View of Man by J.Greshem Machen:
“The Bible is God’s book, not man’s book. Other books give advice that is good and advice that is bad; this book gives only advice that is good, or rather it issues commands that come with the full authority of the sovereign God.
It is upon that high view of the Bible that the present series of talks is based. I am going to seek to explore the Bible with you in order to see what God, and not merely man, has said.
In that presentation of what God has told us in the Bible I hope indeed not to be without sympathy for the man who does not believe as I believe; I hope not to be without sympathy for the man who has such doubts. I hope to be able to show such a man as I go along that some of the objections to the teaching of the Bible which are current among men today are based upon misunderstanding of what the Bible means or upon a failure to consider important confirmatory evidence of the Bible’s truth. But all that should not obscure what I am trying to do. I am not trying to present to you things that I have discovered for myself, and I am not trying to help you discover things for yourselves; but I am asking you to listen with me to what God has told us in His Word.”
